The BBC’s decision to axe Between the Covers is an interesting one.
Hear that? We all need to play a part with the emphasis is on adults to model reading for pleasure to encourage children - and the BBC cancels its sole television show dedicated to books and reading for pleasure?
The BBC’s regret-laden (but not all that regretful, evidently) statement said ending BTC was “a difficult decision” but it will “enable us to prioritise high-impact content that drives viewers to iPlayer”.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they decided to flip this on its head, and opt into investing in programmes that had a high impact on tackling the reading for pleasure crisis and introducing people to brilliant books?
What could be higher impact than that?
